For more than 12 years Christian Missionary & Artist Gretchen M. Smith has
created abstract, contemporary artwork based in scripture. Ms. Smith’s work has
been on display in 12 solo exhibits and more than 50 group exhibits. In
addition she has taught more than 800 students in places such as
Africa,
The Middle East,
Central America, Haiti and Italy.
In 2004 Ms. Smith weathered 4 hurricanes in Central Florida
and decided to restart elsewhere.
After hearing about the Artist Relocation
Program
http://paducaharts.com and talking with a few of the participants she
shipped the remainder of her things to a storage unit in Paducah and followed 2
weeks later having never set foot in Paducah before. As she states, “I found
out about the Artist Relocation Program through my prayer partners at CIVA (www.civa.org)
which is a 1200 member professional organizations for Christians in the Visual
Arts and I feel that God has led me here to be an encouragement to artists and
to provide high quality classes to the community. I never thought I would come
to western KY but I’m lovin’ it ya’ll!”
Ms. Smith was recently
interviewed by Mary Thorsby and there is an interesting article on
